Built in the late 1800s around the house of famous Enlightenment poet, Allan Ramsay, the eponymous Ramsay Garden development is now one of Edinburgh’s most exclusive residences. Its distinctive red and white Scots Baronial-style features are an iconic part of the city skyline, sitting on Castlehill just beside the historic stronghold of Edinburgh Castle. Interior layout

From a main door entryway at the ground level, a flight of steps descends into the lavish surroundings of this luxury Edinburgh holiday apartment. Guests can set down their things and take a rest on the stylish leather ottoman in the hallway. A lovely blue and white porcelain lamp adds a colourful touch.

On the other side of the hallway, a drawing room offers guests the opportunity to gather and unwind. Plush leather sofas establish a refined but relaxing mood. Keen readers of Scottish literature may be interested in the vintage copies of the works of Walter Scott and Robert Burns on display in the drawing room cabinet. Otherwise, there is also a television and a shelf of more contemporary selections for guests to peruse.

In the back corner of the drawing room, a small semicircular turret creates the perfect nook for a desk, providing guests with a unique workspace for their time in Edinburgh. Dramatic floor-to-ceiling doors connect the drawing room to the dining room, which is equipped with a large wooden dining table and elegant red upholstered dining chairs for eight. Its decorative cornices, warm lighting, and grand proportions make this room a marvelous and formal space for guests hoping to host, entertain, or simply share meals together during their stay.

As for sleeping arrangements, the apartment contains three wonderfully light-filled bedrooms. One bedroom has a king bed and the second bedroom has a double bed as well as small televisions, and the third bedroom contains two single beds.

The master bedroom features two antique wooden nightstands and a king bed set on a delightful vintage rattan bed frame. Those staying in this room will enjoy the claw-foot bath tub and  modern shower cubicle in the ensuite bathroom, as well as the traditional, high cistern toilet and the handsome chequerboard marble tiles.

The second bedroom offers both comfort and relaxation, with idyllic landscape paintings, a cream and gold bed frame, and ample storage drawers built into the windowsill.

On the other side of the apartment, the third bedroom contains two twin beds, a stuffed armchair, and an antique dressing table with a mirror.

The second ensuite bathroom features a large square marble bath tub, a rain shower, and an extensive towel warming rack. Next door, a third bathroom provides another shower cubicle.

The many shops, bars, and restaurants along the Royal Mile will be at your doorstep, with famous places such as St Giles’ Cathedral, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Greyfriars Bobby statue less than ten minutes away by foot.

Book in for an opulent, candlelit dinner at The Witchery – also located just across the street–or sample some whiskies from the extensive collection at The Devil’s Advocate along scenic Advocates’ Close, just five minutes down the Royal Mile. This holiday apartment is not suitable for stag or hen parties. A damage deposit of £500 is required prior to arrival and, in the event that there is no damage to the apartment, will be fully refunded one week after your departure.

The apartment is situated on the lower ground floor, accessible via a private entrance at street level. Please note that there is no lift within the property, making it unsuitable for individuals with limited mobility or those requiring wheelchair access.

  • This apartment accommodates a maximum of 6 guests. No unregistered guests are allowed to visit or stay overnight.
  • Parties, events, and large gatherings of any kind are strictly prohibited. All guests must comply with our other house rules regarding noise and the neighborhood.
  • Please do not engage in any anti-social behaviour. Guests must not behave in a way which causes, or is likely to cause, alarm, distress, nuisance or annoyance to any person; or which amounts to harassment of any person; or causes damage to anyone’s property. This includes high levels of noise and drunken or threatening behaviour, which is strictly prohibited.
  • No pets are allowed.
  • Please be respectful of your neighbours and keep any form of noise to a minimum between the hours of 9:00 pm and 7:30 a.m.
  • Strictly no smoking, vaping, candles, or incense burners. Smoking is not permitted in the apartment or outside the apartment building.
  • Access to the back garden is not permitted.
